It all began in 1869

Frederick Parker, an enthusiastic, newly trained furniture maker, started his own chair making business in 1869. Later, in 1901, the company Frederick Parker and Sons Ltd was registered, producing the finest upholstered furniture for the Victorian gentry.

The Parker family had always welcomed progress and innovation, so when Willi Knoll from Germany put forward an idea to revolutionise domestic upholstery, Frederick Parker and Sons saw the design as one with great potential. Willi Knoll’s unique modern patent was a tension and suspension spring made of coiled steel wire, which provided a high degree of comfort through a simple, elegant design. An agreement was made and the company, Parker Knoll, was founded.
