Extending Tables
How do I extend a dining room table?
Most of our extending dining tables use one of two mechanisms: a pull-apart system where the two halves of the table slide outwards and a separate leaf drops or slots into the centre, or a butterfly extension where the additional leaf folds out from within the table itself and unfolds as you open it. Both approaches are designed to be straightforward, typically taking no more than a minute or two once you are familiar with the process, and the better-quality designs ensure the joint sits flush and is barely noticeable when the table is fully extended. It is always worth checking the extended dimensions before you buy to make sure you have adequate clearance for chairs on all sides.
Are expandable dining room tables worth it?
For most people, yes. An extending table gives you a dining room that works for a quiet weeknight dinner and a full house at Christmas without requiring you to compromise on either, and in many homes where space is at a premium, it removes the need to choose between a table that fits the room and one that seats the people.
