Chaise Sofa
What is a chaise sofa?
A chaise sofa is essentially a standard sofa with an extended seat on one end, creating a long lounging area where you can stretch your legs out fully. The chaise section can usually be positioned on either the left or right side to suit your room layout. It's ideal if you enjoy curling up with a book or watching TV in a more relaxed position than a traditional sofa allows. Some designs have a single chaise arm, whilst others might incorporate a chaise into a corner unit. The result is comfortable seating that offers more versatility than a conventional three-piece suite.
Are chaise sofas practical?
Chaise sofas work brilliantly in the right space, but they do need more room than a standard sofa - typically an extra 60-80cm for the chaise section. They're particularly practical for families, as the extended seat gives children space to sprawl or provides a comfortable spot for an afternoon nap. The chaise also doubles as extra seating during gatherings. However, they're less flexible than separate sofas and armchairs if you like to rearrange furniture regularly. Consider your room size carefully: in a smaller lounge, a chaise can dominate, but in a larger, open-plan space, it helps fill the room and creates a focal point for relaxation.
