Founded in the 1930s, Haskins Furniture in Shepton Mallet has grown from a respected local business into one of the South West’s most recognised independent furniture retailers. The company experienced major expansion throughout the 1960s and 1970s, a period when its famous slogan — “The Largest Furnishers in the West” — could be seen emblazoned across its fleet of delivery vehicles travelling throughout the region.
At one stage, Haskins was believed to be one of the largest furniture stores in the UK, offering more than 100,000 square feet of furniture across its showroom floors. By 1980, the business had achieved an annual turnover of seven million pounds — the equivalent of around twenty five million pounds in today’s money — highlighting the scale and success of the company during its peak years.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Haskins Furniture expanded beyond Somerset, operating additional stores in Bristol, Yeovil, Salisbury, as well as a dedicated bed store near Southampton. Today, the business proudly continues to trade solely from its flagship store in Shepton Mallet, remaining family-managed and independent at its core.
Having furnished tens of thousands of homes throughout the country over the decades, Haskins Furniture remains an iconic West Country name, known for quality furniture, trusted service, and generations of experience helping customers create homes they love.
Please note: Haskins Furniture in Shepton Mallet is an independent furniture retailer and has no connection to Haskins Garden Centres.
The headquarters and flagship store of Haskins Furniture is proudly based in Shepton Mallet, where the business has traded from its current 100,000 sq ft site since 1969. Over the decades, the store has become a well-known destination for furniture shoppers across the South West, offering one of the region’s largest selections of sofas, dining furniture, beds and home furnishings under one roof.
For many years, Haskins Furniture also operated a branch within the well-known Gardiners building in Bristol, trading there as a tenant of Gardiner Sons & Co. The Bristol branch served customers for many years before closing in March 2009, allowing the company to focus fully on its extensive Shepton Mallet headquarters and growing online presence.
Although the names are sometimes confused, Haskins Furniture is entirely independent and has no connection with Gardiner Haskins or any associated Bristol businesses.
Haskins Furniture trades as Haskins Furniture Shepton Mallet Ltd and remains a completely independent furniture, upholstery and bed retailer.
