How can I make a freestanding wardrobe look fitted?
The most effective approach is to choose a wardrobe that reaches as close to the ceiling as possible, which removes the visual gap that tends to make freestanding pieces look impermanent and out of place. Positioning it flush against a wall rather than floating in the room also helps considerably, as does filling the full width of an alcove if your room has one. Adding a pelmet or cornice strip along the top to bridge any remaining gap between the wardrobe and the ceiling is a relatively straightforward finishing touch that makes a significant visual difference.
