The dining table is one of the hardest-working pieces of furniture in any home, and Ercol has been making tables and chairs worthy of it since the 1920s. Built in Britain from solid ash and oak, using techniques like steam bending and dovetail jointing that have been part of the Ercol approach for decades, the dining furniture we stock at Haskins is made to be used day after day without losing any of its appeal.
Ercol dining sets bring together extending tables and matching chairs, so if you're starting from scratch or replacing an existing set, it's easy to put together a cohesive look. Tables come in a range of sizes, from smaller extending options that work well in compact rooms, right up to larger tables that can seat eight or more when extended. If flexible seating is important to you, it's worth noting that some dining tables in the range also pair well with benches, which can be a practical choice for families.
The chairs themselves offer plenty of variety. Solid wood options with shaped seats and steam-bent back rails give you that classic Ercol feel, while upholstered dining chairs, available in fabric or leather, add a softer touch and are popular for long meals. There are padded-back options too for those who want extra comfort without moving to a fully upholstered seat. Bar stools and benches round out the seating range nicely.

Ercol Collection Butterfly Chair
The iconic everyday Butterfly chair was launched in 1956. The Butterfly chair features a steam bent backrest and seat creating a distinctive dining chair which is as supportive as it is stylish. Along with traditional Windsor wedge and tenon joinery, a technique in which the chair’s legs are extended through the seat and secured with a wedge. These joints are then sanded until they lie flush with the seat to create a strong and durable base, built to withstand the demands of daily life. Are Ercol dining chairs comfortable?
Ercol dining chairs are designed with long meals in mind, not just how they look. The solid wood chairs have shaped seats and back rails that provide a decent amount of natural support, while the upholstered options, whether fabric or leather, add cushioning that makes extended time at the table much more comfortable. If you tend to linger over dinner, an upholstered or padded-back chair is worth considering. We'd always recommend trying a chair in person if you can, and you're welcome to do exactly that in our showroom.
What height are Ercol dining tables?
Ercol dining tables are designed to a standard dining height, typically around 75 to 76cm from floor to table surface. This works well with the full range of Ercol dining chairs, which are proportioned to match. If you're considering mixing Ercol chairs with a table from another brand, or vice versa, it's always a good idea to check the individual product dimensions on the listing to make sure the seat height and table height are compatible. Our team are happy to help with this if you're unsure.
