With over 90 years of British furniture manufacturing tradition behind them, Sherborne are proud to be British, which means that several hundred additional jobs are also supported in their supplier companies.
Starting over 90 years ago in a small lock-up garage in Sherborne Road, Bradford, Sherborne grew to become a Limited Company in 1953 and after four moves to larger premises established itself at its current main factory in Clayton, Bradford. Sherborne has grown from a small family business into one of the most successful upholstery companies in the United Kingdom with approximately 170 employees.
Our Company philosophy has always been to look after our workforce in a friendly, ‘family’ environment. Building no fewer than seven major factory extensions it also operates from a substantial warehouse at Queensbury, Bradford just a short distance away.
Through three generations of family ownership, skills have been developed and nurtured to enable the highest standards of quality and workmanship to be applied in the manufacture of these upholstery ranges. Traditional craftsmanship is combined with the latest in sophisticated manufacturing techniques to ensure that every piece is produced to a consistently high standard. All Leather furniture is made entirely out of full genuine hides (no split hides or vinyls). High quality REFLEX seat cushions are used throughout.
Only the finest materials are used to ensure that every Sherborne product is made to last. All frames are glued and screwed and every Fixed or Reclining Chair or Settee has fully sprung seating to ensure the proper degree of comfort and support. Furniture is checked at every stage of production to make sure that our high quality standards are maintained, so you can be assured that the product you buy will provide years of comfort and satisfaction in the home.
As a furniture manufacturer Sherborne take environmental issues extremely seriously and the Sherborne Environment Policy is far-reaching in its positive impact.
Firstly, they ensure that all the timber purchased is PEFC-certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and that all the MDF, chipboard and hardboard materials have full FSC certification (Forest Stewardship Council). This means that only fully sustainable, renewable sources are ever used.
Secondly, they have discontinued using moulded, plastic legs on three of their fireside ranges and use mainly eco-polythene bags, made from recycled plastic bottles, to protect their furniture in transit. All surplus polythene bags received by them are collected for reuse or recycling.
