The design inspiration for Old Charm comes from the Tudor and Elizabethan era – a golden age in England’s history where cabinet-making skills and craftsmanship came to the fore. Today Wood Bros still use traditional cabinetry techniques such as dovetailing and mortise and tenon joints for added strength. Once crafted their pieces are then hand-sanded, finished and antiqued to give the authentic look. Style-wise many influences from Europe and the Renaissance are evident featuring beautifully crafted motifs, turnings and carvings from that period.
All these designs are unique to Wood Bros and are developed at their Design Studio in Ware, Hertfordshire. The Design Studio designs quality, function and style into our products from the outset, supported by a team of experienced craftsmen and prototypers.
Wood Bros take pride in their design and manufacturing heritage which stretches over 90 years, from the mahogany reproduction antiques of the 20’s through the glass fibre shells of the 60s to the hardwoods of the present day.
All our materials, from character timber and bespoke fittings to hand soldered lead lights and fabrics, are sourced from the highest quality suppliers all over the world. The oak Wood Bros use is full of knots and gnarls and we are proud to say that no piece of Old Charm furniture is ever alike! Their rustic grade oak is known for its character, fine open grain, durability and ideal for day to day living. The perfect material for showcasing their designs.
Every piece of furniture is made from the finest selection of natural timber, the character of which shows variation of grain adding to the pieces individual nature and appearance. Wood Bros delight in the small knots, grain and natural colour variations which are deliberately retained to enhance the products look and feel. The wear and tear with the passage of time simply mellows and improves the furniture, adding further character and appeal.
We are a family business, which has been around for over 95 years, specialising in the design and manufacture of quality furniture. Wood Bros is located in Ware, Hertfordshire, where it has been since the foundation “stone” was laid in 1952.
Famous for our successful Old Charm traditional Tudor furniture collection, which was first introduced in the early 50s, we have designed and manufactured everything from the cutting-edge modern glass fibre shells of Lurashell to our more contemporary oak and upholstery designs of today.

Wood Bros' Old Charm ‘dining swatch’ includes a variety of fabric styles from traditional tapestries but also provides plainer options. There is a large selection to choose from, and you are sure to find a fabric which complements your chosen of wood colour and finish.
